I will not dwell on the description of the recent kidnapping and murders that took place in Lebanon.
It is rather certain now that the crimes were a retaliation to the murder of Adnan Shamas, after Minister Elias El Murr had stated that the security forces are in search of numerous suspects that reside in Bekaa.
Whoever passing through the streets of Beirut yesterday would certainly sense the terrible vibe the city is going through. Citizens all over the country are worried that certain clashes might be instigated, or the eruption of hate crimes in a retaliation of the murders. My theory, however, is that now is probably the safest period the country shall go through in a couple of months now, due to the anticipation of violence from all partisans, a deflation (in the political sense) will occur. One should only be afraid of violent clashes that occur at the spur of the moment, otherwise, no one is willing to take responsibility (during these delicate times) for any sparkle that would erupt civil violence.
Aside from politics, its time for us to seriously consider disciplining the notorious families of the Bekaa, whether they have been involved in the murders or not; drug dealing, car theft, and trafficking should no longer be tolerated. Sadly, those who have the power to enforce the law, have their hands deeply rooted in the Godfather-like businesses of the Bekaa !!
